MATH
The Indian River District utilizes Math Modules for each grade level, designed by New York State. In Kindergarten, our modules are:
Module 1: Numbers to 10
Module 2: Two-Dimensional and Three-Dimensional Shapes
Module 3: Comparison of Length, Weight, Capacity, and Numbers to 10
Module 4: Number Pairs, Addition and Subtraction to 10
Module 5: Numbers 10-20, Count to 100 by Ones and Tens
Module 6: Analyzing, Comparing, and Composing Shapes
LITERACY
The Indian River District uses a literacy collaborative approach for grades K-2. This consists of 3 main parts: Language/Word Study, Reading Workshop, and Writing Workshop.
Language /Word Study (40-60 minutes/day):
This consists of Interactive Read-Aloud, Community Writing, Modeled/Shared Reading and Writing, Handwriting, Phonics, Word Work, and Storytelling.
Reading Workshop (45-90 minutes/day):
This consists of Guided Reading groups and Literacy Centers (independent work on literacy skills)
Writing workshop (45-60 minutes/day):
This consists of Guided Writing, Community Writing, and Independent Writing
SCIENCE
Indian River uses Next Generation Science Standards to guide its science curriculum.
