6th Grade General Music

Instructor: Mrs. Sarah Cole

Mrs. Renee Loomis also teaches 6th Grade General Music 

• Sixth grade students receive general music instruction for the entire school year.  

• Students meet every-other day for 43min.  

• There are currently two sixth grade music teachers at the Middle School, Mrs. Cole and Mrs. Loomis 

• The '6th Grade General Music Curriculum aligns with the New York State Learning Standards for the Arts.  Current curriculum includes, but is not limited to:

  • Music Technology

  • Composition

  • Keyboards/Pianos 

  • Pitched Percussion Instruments: 

    •  Xylophones 

    • Boomwhachers

  • Unpitched Percussion Instruments:

    • Hand drums to include: tubanos, djembes

    • Accessory Percussion  

  • Music Genres, including World Music

  • Music from the 1900's to Present

  • Musical Theatre

  • Music Notation and Theory 

• This class supports and reinforces concepts learned in other ensembles such as Sixth Grade Band, Chorus, and Orchestra.
