Dr. José Rivera-Chávez received a B.S. in Biological-Pharmaceutical-Chemistry from Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) in 2009, and his Masters and Ph.D. in Chemical Sciences from the same University in 2011 and 2015, respectively. In 2015 Dr. Rivera-Chávez joined The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at The University of North Carolina (Greensboro) as a postdoctoral fellow, under the supervision of Professor Nicholas H. Oberlies. In 2017 he started his independent career as Principal Investigator at the Department of Natural Products of the Institute of Chemistry at UNAM, where he directs the Microbial Natural Products Research Laboratory.
In 2017 Dr. Rivera-Chávez became a member of the National Research System (Level I), from the National Council of Science and Technology (CONACyT, Mexico). Additionally, Dr. Rivera-Chávez, has participated as a PI in grants founded by UNAM and the Mexican Government, through CONACyT. He is an active member of The American Society of Pharmacognosy since 2015.
Currently he directs the research of one Master, 4 Ph.D. and several undergraduate students. Up to November 2023 he has published 41 peer reviewed papers.
