DATA CONFERENCING
Overview
Data conferencing is a tool used to identify areas of need, strengths, and actionable goals/commitments that are supported by student data. Ultimately, the purpose is to increase student achievement and reach out department WIGs by making data driven decisions. The ELD Specialists provide data that is reviewed weekly, and discussed with the ELD Coordinator in conferences once a month. Each week the team will share out their commitments and results. The ELD Coordinator will share the WIG data collected which includes but is not limited to: passing rates, STAR360 results, chronic absenteeism percentages, and Compass info.
Weekly Data Conferencing Google Doc
Weekly by noon on Tuesday, ELD staff provides updated data for the previous week on the WIG Data Tab in the ELD Master Workbook . This data is reviewed and analyzed each week by the ELD Coordinator, and it is discussed at the next data conference scheduled with the team member. Trends are identified and short-term, student achievement-oriented goals are written to support those trends. Each week the team will share out their committments and results. The ELD Coordinator will share the WIG data collected which includes but is not limited to: passing rates, STAR360 results, and chronic absenteeism percentages. Detailed explanations of the data requested on the spreadsheet are below.
Monthly 1:1 Data Conferences
Once per month, ELD staff meets with the ELD Coordinator to discuss trends in data, individual student successes and concerns, observation notes, and progress toward action items/commitments. The purpose of these meetings is to evaluate data and make instructional and engagement decisions that are student-centered. The conference format is below:
1. Discussion of informal observation
2. Celebrate student successes
2. Discussion of participation and course passing rates
3. Update on action students from the previous month - discuss how students are being selected
4. Plan for next month
5. Questions/Concerns for the ELD Coordinator
Examples of the types of data that will be reviewed in these meetings include the information provided weekly on the Data Conferencing Google Doc, ELPAC scores, Star360 data, attendance and participation in live classes, course passing rates. ELD Specialists are strongly encouraged to keep notes on students as needed to reference in these discussions. Teachers should come to this conference prepared to discuss changes to data, possible underlying causes of trends, and have notes about progress made with the action students.
Data Conferencing Weekly Spreadsheet Procedure
Weekly, prior to the scheduled data conference, the teacher will complete the Data Conferencing form. Detailed descriptions of the requested information are below.
ELD Team Data Conferencing Spreadsheet Descriptions
Date
ELD Coordinator completes each week for the team.
CC Weekly Participation Rate
Average of all class participation for the week divided by the amount of minutes assigned.
Student Successes
Pick two students who have done exceptionally well this week, made a turn for the better, or deserve some praise. Please include the SID and a brief explanation of why this student was chosen. This also could be a place to share out a class overall success.
Action Students
Write the names of 3 students who you will be targeting this next week. Reasons for choosing students could be "bubble students" for chronically absent or passing ELA, no ELD CC attendance the previous week, etc. Students can be carried over from the previous week if no progress has been made. A student can only be on the list for a maximum of two weeks. We must have some kind of resolution and action steps.
Compliance: If a student misses three consecutive required ELD class connect sessions with you, please send Missing ELD Attendance Email to Homeroom Teacher to request the non-compliance process to be started.
