Below you will find the rubric I developed to evaluate online assessment tools. In addition, with the rubric I evaluated three different online assessment tools, you will find those completed rubrics at the links below. Finally, there is a written comparison paper that I comprised after I had used my rubric to assess the 3 tools.
The online assessment tools I evaluated are:

Technology is changing so fast, as a teacher who is busy with everything educational institutions require plus a family to take care of, I just don’t have time to keep up with all the new developments. In addition, more and more schools are going one-to-one, including mine, which means teachers are working hard to create lessons that are engaging with the use of technology. All of this is very overwhelming.
I don’t know if I will use this rubric every time I come across a new online assessment tool, but I found it very useful when I evaluated the three tools I choose for this project. First, it made me reflect over what I expect and want out of an online assessment tool. I realized there was a lot I hadn’t considered yet in my small experience using similar tools. Second, in my reflection of the original project I noted that I believe all of the three tools could be incorporated into my classroom when appropriate. I enjoyed the fact that I was able to choose three tools that I had yet to use extensively with my classes (I had used Poll Everywhere once or twice). I feel like I know those three tools very well know and would be very comfortable using them in my classroom.
When creating this online assessment tool rubric it was challenging because I don’t have very much experience with online assessment tools. In general, they are a fairly new concept and I have been restricted to the one our district has an agreement with until recently when all the new apps, extensions, and add-ons became popular. If I had more experience using an online assessment tool(s) I think I could have done a better job creating a extremely useful rubric. Maybe, as I get more use out of tools like these I will tweak the rubric to really aide in my decisions for when and if to use them. A great idea would be to provide my department staff with the rubric and have all 20 teachers evaluate a different online assessment tool. Then we would have 20 different tools to choose from that have been fully vetted by our colleagues. The need to evaluate tools like these is not going away so for that and all the above reasons I have included this project in my e-portfolio.
