PE Areas of Study/Goals

PHYSICAL EDUCATION DEPARTMENT AREAS OF STUDY

1. Fitness: Students will learn about heart rates and exercise. Students will also learn about the positive effects of exercise on their body and their heart.

2. Exercise: We will learn about many different exercises to keep our bodies fit for life.

3. Sports: We will try many different sports and activities. By doing this the students will see that there is a wide variety of sports/activities to choose from to stay active.

4. Health: Students will learn about many different muscles and bones in the body. Students will also learn how to stretch and exercise each muscle.

GOALS

Psychomotor:

1. Students will develop the skills necessary to participate in sports or activities

2. Students will develop muscular and cardiovascular strength, endurance, and efficiency.

3. Students will develop body coordination, balance and flexibility.

Cognitive:

1. Students will develop the ability to explore, acquire knowledge and understand value judgements.

2. Students will develop knowledge of game rules, safety measures and etiquette.

3. Students will develop an ability to follow directions

4. Students will develop knowledge of “how” and “why” the body functions and its relationship to physical activity.

Affective:

1. Students will learn to control emotions and behavior in a competitive setting.

2. Students will develop and attitude reflecting responsibility and good moral character.

3. Students will develop self-expression and creativity.

4. Students will develop the ability to have fun individually as well as in a group.

5. Students will develop good sportsmanship in individual and team situations.

6. Students will develop a respect for authority.

Lifetime:

1. Students will participate in a variety of activities to gain an understanding and appreciation of sports that enhance leisure time.
