PROJECTS & EVENTS
Turning ideas into something that actually happens
Good projects and events need more than a good idea.
They need planning, coordination, communication, problem-solving, follow-through and someone prepared to take ownership when things change.
That is where I can help.
Through JB Services, I provide practical project and event management support for businesses, community organisations, charities, groups and individuals across Taupō and the Central North Island.
I can step in for a defined piece of work, help strengthen an existing team, or take responsibility for coordinating a project from idea through to delivery.

ACTIVE PROJECTS - COMMUNITY MARKETS
PROJECT MANAGEMENT
Practical support from idea to delivery
Some projects stall because nobody has the time to keep all the moving parts moving.
I can help bring structure to the work, keep people informed, follow up on actions and make sure the project continues progressing.
Support can include:
Project planning
Timelines and scheduling
Stakeholder coordination
Supplier and contractor liaison
Volunteer coordination
Administration and documentation
Budget tracking
Meeting coordination
Communications
Task and action management
Risk identification
Event and project logistics
On-the-ground delivery
Post-project review
The level of support can be flexible.
You might need someone to manage the whole project, or simply someone experienced to take responsibility for a particular part of it.

EVENT MANAGEMENT
From the first idea to the last pack-down
Events can look simple from the outside.
Behind the scenes, there are often venues, suppliers, volunteers, guests, marketing, health and safety, schedules, equipment, weather plans, catering, communications and dozens of small decisions that all need to come together at the right time.
I enjoy that part.
I can help with events such as:
Community events
Fundraisers
Expos
Markets
Social events
Business events
Workshops
Community engagement events
Small festivals
Private events
Promotional activations
Support can include planning, bookings, run sheets, site layouts, stallholder or participant coordination, supplier liaison, volunteer management, event communications and on-the-day delivery.
SHORT-TERM PROJECT SUPPORT
Extra capability without adding another permanent employee
Sometimes the issue is not that your organisation lacks ideas.
It simply lacks time.
A staff member may be away.
A project might have grown beyond what the existing team can comfortably manage.
An event deadline could be approaching.
Or there may be an important piece of work that keeps getting pushed down the list.
I can provide short-term support to help get that work moving.
This can be particularly useful for:
Small businesses
Charities
Community organisations
Volunteer-led groups
Event committees
Organisations going through busy periods
Teams managing a one-off project
The arrangement can be built around the project rather than forcing the work into an ongoing employment relationship.
COMMUNITY PROJECTS
Experience working where people, purpose and logistics meet
A significant part of my project and event experience has been within the Taupō community.
Community projects often need a slightly different approach.
Budgets can be tight.
Many of the people involved may be volunteers.
There can be several organisations working together.
And success is not always measured in dollars.
It might be measured in attendance, participation, connection, awareness, community benefit or simply whether people want to come back next time.
I bring practical project management together with an understanding of community organisations, volunteers and local networks.
PROJECTS I’VE WORKED ON
A few examples
COMAVOL
Community and Volunteer Expo
Support across event planning, exhibitor coordination, stakeholder relationships, logistics and delivery.
TAUPŌ COMMUNITY CARNIVAL
A large community-focused event involving organisations, activities, volunteers and public engagement.
I have been involved with the event across multiple years, including 2023, 2024 and 2025.
JUNK TOWN
A community event built around creativity, reuse and participation.
The project required coordination across people, activities, promotion and practical event delivery.
A recurring community marketplace focused on reuse, second-hand goods, food, produce exchange and community connection.
This project has involved everything from event development and venue coordination through to stallholder systems, marketing, health and safety, partnerships and on-the-day management.
EVENTS I’VE DEVELOPED
Not every event I work on starts with somebody else's brief.
I also enjoy developing event concepts from scratch.
That has included community markets, social events, singles events, dinners, dances and other ways of bringing people together.
Creating these projects gives me first-hand experience of the entire process:
Idea → planning → promotion → bookings → logistics → delivery → review → improvement
That experience is useful when helping somebody else bring their own idea to life.
EVENT COMMUNICATIONS & PROMOTION
A great event still needs people to know about it
Event planning and event marketing are closely connected.
Depending on the project, I can also support:
Event branding
Facebook and social media promotion
Event descriptions and promotional copy
Email communications
Attendee information
Stallholder and exhibitor packs
Signage content
Event webpages
Online booking and registration processes
Community promotion
Media and stakeholder communications
Because I work across both operational delivery and communications, I can help make sure the public-facing message matches what is actually happening behind the scenes.
STAKEHOLDERS, VOLUNTEERS & PARTNERS
Keeping everyone moving in the same direction
Many events and community projects succeed because several different groups agree to work together.
That can include:
Sponsors
Venues
Community organisations
Volunteers
Contractors
Suppliers
Councils
Local businesses
Stallholders
Participants
Media
Members of the public
Good stakeholder management is not just about sending emails.
It is about understanding what people need, keeping them informed, solving problems early and making it easy for them to play their part.
My background across operations, community organisations, business and events has given me extensive experience in this area.
ON-THE-DAY EVENT MANAGEMENT
When the plan meets reality
Even the best event plan changes once people arrive.
Someone is late.
Something has been delivered to the wrong place.
A volunteer needs help.
The weather changes.
A supplier needs a decision.
A guest has a question.
Good event management means being able to adapt without letting every small issue become everybody else's problem.
I can provide on-the-day coordination so organisers, boards, staff or hosts can focus on the people attending rather than constantly firefighting behind the scenes.
HEALTH & SAFETY
Practical event delivery also means considering the people involved and the environment they are working in.
Depending on the scale and nature of the project, this can include:
Event risk assessment
Site planning
Emergency procedures
Volunteer briefings
Incident reporting
Contractor coordination
Weather planning
Access and movement around the site
Equipment and gazebo safety
Clear responsibilities on the day
Where specialist advice or formal certification is required, I will work with the appropriate qualified people.
WHY WORK WITH JB SERVICES?
One point of contact
You deal directly with me.
Practical, not theoretical
I am comfortable working on the planning documents and then being there on the day moving tables, answering questions and solving problems.
Flexible involvement
I can manage the whole project or take responsibility for one part of it.
Community experience
I understand the realities of volunteer-led and not-for-profit projects, where resources may be limited but expectations are still high.
Business experience
My background also spans commercial management, marketing, technology and consulting, so I am equally comfortable working with businesses and professional organisations.
Local knowledge
I am Taupō based, with established relationships across the local community and business sector.
HAVE AN IDEA BUT NOT A PLAN YET?
That is fine too.
You do not need to arrive with a completed brief, venue and spreadsheet.
Sometimes the first conversation is simply:
“I've got this idea. I'm not quite sure how to make it happen.”
Those can be some of the most interesting projects.
We can talk through what you are trying to achieve, what might be involved and whether I am the right person to help.
