This course is suitable to a range of students of all ages. Complete beginners will gain practical skills in working with their own energies and in helping others.
Complementary Therapists will be able to add to the skills that you already have.
This course is ideal for complete beginners who are interested in learning about Shiatsu. You do not need any previous experience.
Therapists who already hold a qualification in other treatments will find this course to be a valuable addition to their continuing professional development.
You will learn about the classical meridian system, the wonder of points, and how to develop your practice and develop your own energy and wellbeing.
You will delve into the world of Chinese Medicine, including Yin and Yang, Five Phases, and Organ Functions. You will also be introduced to basic anatomy.
Specifically, by the end of the course, you will be able to:
explain your understanding of the theory and application of Yin\Yang and the Five Phases
demonstrate knowledge of the main functions and contra-indications of a selection of points
explain your understanding of ethics and professional practice in relation to Shiatsu
be able to give a basic Shiatsu treatment
have a better understanding of Western Anatomy
Assessment will be practical and on-going throughout the course. You will be assessed conducting shiatsu treatments. There will be some written course work.
There is no end of course exam.
The One Year Certificate comprises the three weekends (6 days) of the Foundation Course plus an additional eight weekends (16 days).
The course days run from 10am until 5pm on Saturdays and from 10am until 4.30pm on Sundays.
There is normally a 45 minute break for lunch and 15 minute breaks in the morning and afternoon.
Come in comfortable rather than tight fitting clothing. Leggings and tracksuits are ideal.

This certificate builds on the skills and experience gained through our Foundation Course by providing a comprehensive introduction to the treatment of each of the classical Chinese meridians used in Traditional Chinese Medicine.
On completion of this year, you can become a member of the Shiatsu Society and feature on the society's Wellbeing Register as an Acupressure Therapist. This enables you to practice and charge within the remit of your knowledge and experience.
This course will give you access to Year 2 of the Shiatsu Diploma.
The course fee is £1,100. There are no additional costs.
The course fee for students who complete, pay and continue from the foundation course is £800.
