Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) is an evidence-based approach that helps people to navigate intense emotions, build resilience, and improve relationships. Our 10-week psychoeducational group offers a supportive space to learn and practice two core DBT modules: Distress Tolerance and Mindfulness.
Distress Tolerance skills help us navigate intense or painful emotions without making the situation worse. They offer practical strategies to soothe the body, ground ourselves in moments of crisis, reduce the intensity of overwhelming feelings, and make thoughtful choices even when we’re under significant stress. These skills can support us in getting through difficult moments safely and coping more effectively with life’s challenges without turning towards impulsive or unhelpful behaviours.
Mindfulness skills allow us to slow down and be more present in times of stress by noticing our thoughts, emotions and body sensations without judgement. This practice improves emotional awareness so that we can notice when our emotions are escalating before they begin to feel unmanageable or out of control. Mindfulness skills can help us to feel more grounded during moments of stress or overwhelm; reduce habitual self-criticism; and respond to stressful situations with intention rather than an automatic reaction.
This group may be a good fit if you often feel overwhelmed by, or afraid of, strong emotions; if you are hoping to improve your emotion regulation skills or response to stressful situations; if you would like to cope better with symptoms related to anxiety, depression, trauma, or BPD; or if you simply want to feel more grounded and in-control of your feelings day-to-day.
We are accepting participants on a first-come first-served basis until our group hits capacity. If you think this group could be a helpful support to you, we encourage you to book a DBT Info Session to learn more by clicking HERE.
Participants are required to attend all 10 sessions. One absence may be accommodated if notice is provided in advance or if the absence is due to illness or emergency. In these circumstances, a make-up session will be offered so that all participants remain on-track with psychoeducational content.
As this is an educational skills-based group rather than a space for emotion processing, participants are required to have access to an individual therapist in case emotional support is needed during participation. If you are interested in our group but do not currently have a therapist, we can connect you to one who can support you as needed.
