This day started at the Barcelona airport. From there we took a flight to Istanbul, after we landed we had one hour and 30 minutes to explore the massive airport of Istanbul. After exploring we took our second flight to Thessaloniki. When we landed we had difficulties finding the bus. After finding it, the bus took us to Litochoro, where we met the greek students again.
Good morning, today we wake up in Litochoro. The first activity we did was visit a navigation museum about commercial ships (Marine Museum of Litochoro). During the visit, we were able to see the different parts of a ship, such as the front part where the control center is located. Among the interesting explanations, we learned how they could communicate when they were at sea.
They used a specific radio that was much larger compared to today's devices. There was also a second communication option in case the radio didn't work due to poor signal, a bell that produced a very loud sound. As the visit progressed, the guide showed us an object called a sextant used to determine the ship's location when they were at sea. We also admired some models made of wood and ropes of the first ships created to transport more weight. At the end of the visit, there was an exhibition of certificates and navigation titles of the captains. At lunchtime, each of us ate with our respective families, and fortunately, Jana and I were able to enjoy a magnificent barbecue that they prepared for us. We had the opportunity to try typical Greek dishes, such as: • Salad cheese • Pita bread • Spiced rice • Pepper and onion salad. After resting for a while, we took a small excursion to the gorges of the river of Mount Olympus. They explained to us the history hidden in that green area. Years ago, it is said that the "Muses" bathed in these natural pools where all the gods admired them. Zeus and his gelois punished them because he wanted the women to be only for him. Due to climate change, the water flow in these gorges has drastically decreased as it snows less in winter, and therefore there is not a great flow of water in summer. Upon arriving at the point where we previously started the excursion, the physical education teacher from the Litochoro institute taught us a trick to whistle with our fingers and with an acorn shell. First day successfully completed in which we learned a little more about Greek culture. See you tomorrow!
Today we spent the whole morning in the greeks students’s school. First, they showed us around the school and explained some fun facts about it. Then, all of us presented some workshops we had made about climate change; their presentation was about how their area is affected, while ours was about the activities we did when they came to Spain.
We also did some work like an essay, a video and a colage in groups, every group was in charge of something. For the breaks, there was some traditional food called tyròpita cheese pie, it was so good!!!
After lunch we met at a Cafè all the girls, we drank coffee and stayed all afternoon talking, meanwhile the boys were playing FC25 online Cafè. After that, we all met a dance teacher to practice their traditional dances. Some of them were easy to follow but the others were so difficult to dance. Finally everyone went to their houses to eat dinner or something.
