Project

Our project is designed to address the significant impact of social media on adolescents, highlighting both its advantages and the negative effects it can have on their mental health and overall well-being. This concern is shared among parents, educators, and mental health professionals, all of whom recognize the profound influence of social media on various aspects of adolescents' lives, including self-esteem and relationships.

Recognizing the challenges posed by the digital landscape, particularly in the context of online learning, our project focuses on empowering educators with the digital skills necessary to navigate these spaces effectively. Many teachers and students faced difficulties transitioning to online learning during lockdowns, primarily due to a lack of familiarity with digital tools. To address this issue, we've developed activities aimed at enhancing teachers' digital competencies, enabling them to plan engaging online lessons, create interactive activities, and monitor student progress more effectively.

Moreover, as technology continues to play an increasingly significant role in education, it's essential for both teachers and students to develop new skills and abilities to navigate the virtual world responsibly. Our project aims to facilitate this by providing teachers and students with the tools and resources needed to recognize and combat disinformation and misinformation online. By fostering digital and critical thinking skills, our platform equips educators and students alike to navigate the digital landscape safely and responsibly, ultimately supporting their personal and academic development.

The project will equip students with the skills to critically evaluate media and social media content, thereby mitigating the harmful effects of disinformation. Concurrently, it will address the pressing need for teachers to adapt to online education by enhancing their digital skills.

Activities include specialized training for both students and teachers, the development of interactive online lessons, and the creation of a comprehensive toolkit, manual, and website. The project prioritizes social inclusion and gender equality, aiming for sustainable and accessible educational solutions.

Target Group

Educators seeking to enhance their digital literacy skills and methods for teaching critical thinking.

Adolescents vulnerable to digital misinformation, aiming to develop media literacy and critical thinking skills.

Background

The project emerges against the backdrop of a growing disinformation crisis, exacerbated by the Covid-19 pandemic, which has made media literacy and digital competency more critical than ever. It aims to address these challenges by focusing on four key pillars:

Collaborative efforts will be facilitated through virtual platforms like SELFIE and the European Youth Portal. All activities are grounded in a detailed needs analysis to ensure they address concrete issues effectively. The project also seeks external support from NGOs for specialized training and workshops, aiming to equip teachers with the skills to integrate digital tools seamlessly into their teaching practices.
