In Unit 2, students celebrate and reflect on what food and nutrition mean in their cultures. They begin to build their understanding of what influences people’s food choices and what food security means. Students investigate their local food environment and create a community guide to share their observations. In this digital project, students describe the food environment and suggest ways to improve food security for everyone in the community, particularly through increased access to nutritious foods.
Enduring Understandings:
What people eat varies across cultures and geographies.
People need access to nutritious food to survive and thrive.
People have food security when they can access affordable, nutritious food options whenever they need to.
Among other tasks, we researched how do where you live and your culture influence what you eat.
They have to think about a dish that is special to them family or their people in our city. An I-search is used to reflect about what you know and your experiences to research a topic. In this I-Search, they use their personal experience, research online, and talk to someone in their family to answer the questions.
