I was tasked with creating a 32 measure piece using Ableton Live. I started by using the Ableton Push with the Pitch Bend Strip. This is how I created the first synth melody. I then tracked some drums to go with it. I doubled the drums so it sounds like its going faster in measures 8-16. I then added some chords and bass that roughly follow the melody.
I learned a lot about how the pace of drums can affect the overall sound of the song. I also used my knowlege of bending strings with the guitar to bend the notes.
In this project 4 of us randomly put pieces of the song into the mix and put them out of time. We did this by starting loops a measure or two early and late. This caused the mix to go out of time. I wanted to create something that confused the listener, something that was different.
I learned how to use time and reverb to my advantage to create different sounding pieces. I also learned that surprising the listener can be just as fun as making something similar. I made sure to mix it all right to left then front to back and then up and down.

I wanted to create a hype up EDM type of song. I started off with the main synth line. I knew I wanted 3 different drum sections so I created the A section for the chorus and B for the first verse and C for the second verse. I used a loop to have a backing bass track and lowered the dynamic of that in order to create a sort of eerie feeling. I wanted to add a few more elements so I created another drum track, where the symbol hits over and over. I used this as my lead up. Finally I added horn hits to give a little more feeling and panned everything.
I learned a lot about transitions. The first transition from the chrous to the first verse was pretty sloppy so I wanted to make the second one really good. I learned how to use the volume and pan automation in order to create a blend effect. I also learned about changing the mode to make the listener really feel the tension of the song.
