Welcome back! We trust that you and your children had a fantastic summer break and are now rejuvenated and eager to embark on another exciting year of learning. We are thrilled to present the Year 6 curriculum newsletter for the autumn term, where you can explore the incredible learning opportunities that await your children during this first half of the term.
We will be using our core text, Gorilla Dawn, to write creatively using a range of writing techniques. In the heart of the African jungle, a baby gorilla falls into the hands of rebel soldiers. Imara and Bobo, fellow captives, discover its grim fate – captivity. Their hearts resolve to save it, pledging to release the gorilla back to the wild, defying time's cruel grasp.
Our learning in maths will move through different units this half term, including place value and four operations.
We will be learning about the living things and their habitats with a focus on evolution and inheritance. The children will learn about The Linnaean system, named after the famous taxonomist Carl Linnaeus while using first-hand observation to identify characteristics shared by animals in a group.
In Geography we will be learning about the Amazon Rainforest in South America and the impact of colonies and indigenous groups.
