Welcome back to spring 2. We hope you had a restful break and are looking forward to the next part of the learning journey. In this curriculum newsletter, you will be able to explore all the exciting learning we have plannned for the children this half term. If you haven't already signed up to Twitter/X, please do as we regularly post our fantastic learning on the platform.
We will continue to read 'You Choose fairytales' story and through this book we will be focusing on the traditional tales of The Three Little Pigs and Jack and the Beanstalk. The children will be learning about the different characters in a story and explore how stories may end differently when we change the characters. They will also continue to make their own stories with different settings and of course a 'baddie'! Through this text the children will make links to our global theme 'Social justice and equity’. This is to encourage and develop an understanding of empathy and respect of all people and how to promote change for the better.
Our focus will be on Foundations for Phonics which is part of Little Wandle, using rhymes and stories. They will be planned activities linked to the rhymes which will support children's understanding to be able to respond to questions. Environmental sounds will also be done in small groups. Children will also be involved in games to support their blending skills.
The children will think deeply about how the characters are feeling and make links to behaviours and feelings that they may have experienced in the classroom.
This half term, we will continue our number journey by using the In Maths this half term, Nursery children will be introduced to positional language through stories, symbols, map drawing, song and an assault course. We will be encouraging children to use positional language to describe where treasure is hidden and to give give instructions to their friends which will also aid in their speech and language development. We will also be revisiting the learning of one more and one less by solving real life problems.
We will be creating a display to showcase our learning about community heroes. This will include different materials and techniques to create our artwork.
In addition to this we are lucky to have Diddy Dance visiting us. We will be shown different ways to move our bodies to the music by Anne Marie the dance teacher.
Within Nursery we offer a wide range of resources for the children to investigate and explore. Small world provisions allow children to explore places they may not have visited yet, helping them distinguish between different climates and landscapes.
Interacting with people who help us (firefighters, doctors, refuse collectors) helps children understand the roles people play in society.
Children use small world figures to mirror their own home lives or explore how other families might live, fostering a sense of belonging for all.
