Before You Close the Year, Ask Yourself This One Question

What if the most important measure of this year isn't what you achieved, but what you learned about yourself along the way?
What if the most important measure of this year isn't what you achieved, but what you learned about yourself along the way?
As another school year comes to an end, educators across the country are busy finishing grades, cleaning classrooms, completing reports, and preparing for summer.
In the midst of all that activity, I'd like to invite you to pause and ask yourself one question:
Who did I become this year?
It's a simple question, but a powerful one.
We often evaluate a school year by outcomes.
Did students grow?
Did goals get met?
Did initiatives succeed?
Those questions matter.
But there's another measure that deserves our attention.
How did this year shape you?
Consider:
What challenge taught you the most?
Where did you demonstrate resilience?
What boundary did you learn to establish?
How did your leadership grow?
What lesson will you carry forward?
Growth isn't always visible in accomplishments.
Sometimes it appears in wisdom.
Sometimes it appears in perspective.
Sometimes it appears in the confidence that comes from navigating difficult circumstances and emerging stronger on the other side.
As you close this school year, take a moment to honor both your work and your growth.
The leader who began the year is not the same leader who is finishing it, and that may be one of the most important accomplishments of all.
