Insurance: I am an in-network provider with most commercial Anthem/BCBS, Aetna, Cigna, United Healthcare plans. I am also a preferred provider with Tricare/Humana Military.
When using insurance, your total cost depends on:
Your therapist’s network status with your insurer
Your specific policy details
The above may effect both the total fee and your out-of-pocket responsibility. Please feel welcome to ask if you have questions about your insurance and how it works. Usually we can look up additional information about your specific policy if the costs are unclear.
Private Pay / Out-of-Network Rates
If you choose not to use insurance, or your insurance doesn’t cover services, the fees are as follows:
45–55 minute session: $130
60+ minute session: $175
Initial Intake Assessment: $200
Cancellations and No-Shows
In general, I do not charge a cancellation or no-show fee if clients reach out to explain the reason for their absence. Life happens—I personally dislike assessing fees in most cases.
That said, my practice reserves the right to charge a cancellation/no-show fee or terminate treatment if attendance or punctuality consistently disrupts care or reasonable outreach attempts are not made.
Private practice therapy reflects a significant investment by your therapist in order to provide confidential, ethical, and high-quality care. It's perfectly fair to wonder why your sessions cost what they do. Some elements that contributes to the cost of professional psychotherapy include:
1. Office Space & Utilities
A professional, private setting requires paying rent/mortgage, utilities, and support services.
2. Time & Expertise
Therapist time extends beyond the session itself to include:
Preparation
Documentation
Coordination with other providers
Consultation and ongoing accessibility
In private practice, your therapist has more control over these elements compared to those in agency settings.
3. Primary and Continuing Education
At minimum, clinicians generally need to complete post-masters level training and complete three thousand hours of clinical experience before obtaining their license. Ongoing learning through workshops, trainings, and certifications are required annually to remains current and specialized.
4. Administrative Costs
Includes scheduling, billing, insurance coordination, and record-keeping—whether done by a support staff or the therapist directly.
5. Technology & Software
Costs include secure telehealth platforms, client communication tools, and medical records software to safeguard your privacy.
6. HIPAA Compliance
Maintaining compliance means investing in secure infrastructure, training, and systems that meet federal privacy laws.
7. Licensing & Insurance
Therapists must maintain active licenses and carry liability insurance in both the state they practice and where their clients reside.
