Field operations are subject to severe environmental constraints, including extreme weather conditions, extended periods of polar night, and limited access for maintenance.
During the Arctic summer months, the stations are accessible by car from the southern side of the fjord or by boat to reach the northern side. When the sea ice is sufficiently thick, the network stations can be accessed by quad or snowmobile.
Routine maintenance activities include power supply checks and local data downloads.
The presence of wild animals such as polar bears, seals, Arctic foxes, and musk oxen is common in the area.
The stations must be protected to prevent animals from damaging the instrumentation.
