The Hydro-Seismological Observatory (HySO)
The Hydro-Seismological Observatory (HySO)
HySO is a cutting-edge scientific infrastructure designed in the framework of the INGV MACMAP Project, to produce multidisciplinary datasets for climate research.
Deployed in Northwestern Greenland, about 10 km NE of the Pituffik US Space Base, HySO is funded by INGV and CAT, with research activities supported logistically by the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the Thule High Arctic Atmospheric Observatory (THAAO).
HySO’s research priorities include:
Monitoring calving events and quantifying ice loss
Exploring glacial dynamics using seismic and hydrodynamic signals
Contributing high-quality datasets to international research infrastructures, including the European Plate Observing System (EPOS) and the European Integrated Data Archive (EIDA)
