It has been a lovely first few weeks back at Willow Tree! Thank you, as always, for your continued support and encouragement. It has been wonderful to see the children settling so well into their new classes, getting to know their new routines and enjoying being back together.
Thank you to all the parents and carers who have joined us for our Meet the Teacher meetings so far. Years 3, 5 and 6 have their meetings next week, and we look forward to seeing you then.
Some of our children have also been busy helping to make our school grounds look even better. They have helped to put up our new display signs for each class and have been sowing grass seed underneath our willow trees. They took their job very seriously – even fencing the newly seeded areas off to make sure nobody accidentally stands on them!
It has been a really positive start to the year, and we are looking forward to all that the term ahead will bring.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support. Have a wonderful weekend.
We are delighted to share that our Year 2 children have been invited to take part in Reading for the Planet, a reading for pleasure project run by the National Literacy Trust and funded by Bupa.
This intergenerational programme brings children and older people together through a shared love of books. Our Year 2 class will be partnered with Brunswick Court care home, just a short distance from school. Over a series of fun events, the children will spend time with residents and staff, sharing stories and conversations.
This year's project has a sustainability theme, so the children will be encouraged to talk with residents about nature and the world around us. It is a wonderful chance for them to hear different perspectives, build confidence in speaking and listening, and form new connections within our local community.
Best of all, every child will get to choose three brand new books to keep, at no cost to families. We hope this will help to grow a real enjoyment of reading both in school and at home. The National Literacy Trust have also donated lots of environment related books to school for all of our children to enjoy.
We are very grateful to the National Literacy Trust, Bupa and everyone at Brunswick Court for making this possible. We look forward to sharing updates and photos as the project unfolds.
We are very lucky to have some pupils who are passionate about keeping our school site safe and tidy. This week they decided that they needed to grow new grass under the willow trees - and it is sprouting!
