The 15th workshop of the Pathfinder HI Survey Coordination Committee (PHISCC) will be held in Cagliari, Italy, on 22 - 24 September 2025. Breakout sessions on various aspects of the ongoing HI surveys will follow on 25 - 26 September 2025.
Motivation
The series of annual PHISCC workshops started in 2009 and aims at bringing together the community interested in HI research with the SKA pathfinders and precursors. The goal of the PHISCC workshops is to foster collaboration and exchange of ideas both from a scientific and technical point of view, with a strong focus on engaging early-career researchers.
With most major new and upgraded facilities for 21 cm research operational, the PHISCC 2025 workshop will focus on the latest HI results in the broader multi-wavelength context and in connection with theory and simulations.
Workshop sessions (22 - 24 September 2025)
The workshop sessions will cover a broad range of science topics:
HI results on gas accretion and star formation in the context of a multi-phase ISM and CGM
Galaxy dynamics
Interaction between galaxies and the surrounding environment
AGN feeding and feedback
The evolution of the HI properties of galaxies with redshift
Predictions from and comparison with theory and simulations
Besides regular contributed talks, the SOC has included in the program joint talks given by multiple attendees. Joint talks will allow more participants to present their results and make for a more dynamic workshop. See the program page for more details.
Breakout sessions (25 - 26 September 2025)
Following the workshop, the following breakout sessions will cover several recent developments on HI surveys, observations, data reduction and analysis:
New and future instrumentations
Source Finding
Source Characterisation
Kinematical Modelling
Observing HI in the simulations
Techniques for continuum subtraction
Visualisation
Image quality in the era of big data
In addition to these, there will be a Virtual Reality hands-on session, which will allow you to visualise your own cube in VR.
Finally, several short team meetings will take place:
FLASH
MeerKAT Fornax Survey
Laduma
MHONGOOSE
WALLABY
See the program page for more details.
