Op-Analytics Challenge: A Fusion of Operations & Business Analytics

The event brings together the expertise of operations management and business analytics, challenging students to apply analytical techniques to real-world operational problems. Participants will analyze business operations through a data-driven lens, identifying inefficiencies and proposing optimized solutions.

Who can participate?

• Under – graduates and Post – graduates

• Team of 3 - 5 members

Rounds for Op – Analytics (2 Rounds)

Round 1: Screening Round – Kahoot Quiz

• Quiz on key concepts in Operations & Business Analytics like supply chain, process optimization, predictive analytics, and data-driven decision-making.

• Top teams advance to the final round.

Round 2: Op-Analytics Case Study & Presentation

• Each team selects a movie-based business case (e.g., The Founder, Moneyball, The Big Short, Ford v Ferrari).

• Identify an operations & business analytics-related challenge in the movie.

• Use business analytics techniques (forecasting, data visualization, optimization models, etc.) to analyze and propose a solution.

• Present findings in a structured PowerPoint presentation.

 Rules

• Case Selection: Pre-approved list of movies OR instructor-approved selections.

• Problem Analysis: Teams must apply both operations (Lean, Six Sigma, logistics) and analytics (predictive modeling, machine learning, statistical analysis).

• Presentation Criteria (10-12 minutes per team):

o   Case Overview (10%) – Explanation of the selected business case.

o   Problem Identification (20%) – Clear articulation of the operational issue.

o   Data & Analytics Approach (30%) – Application of analytics tools for insights.

o   Proposed Solution (20%) – Feasibility, practicality, and innovation in problem-solving.

o   Presentation Quality (20%) – Visual appeal, logical flow, and delivery.
