Being Successful in 7th Grade Science:

What Students should do

Write down your homework in your planner every day. It is always on the board and we always go over it. It is also on-line if you forget.

Attempt everything and ask questions.  Be sure to complete all assignments.  If you cannot do a problem for homework, write a question (as long as the homework is being done on time) and show it to me the next day.

Review feedback given for assignments.  These teacher comments will help you revise your work.

Revise poorly done work (when available).  If you struggled on an assignment or test, ask about being able to revise or retake it.

Use the online study resources on the teacher website. If you struggle on tests and quizzes, start studying the vocabulary for 5 to 10 minutes a night twice a week starting at the BEGINNING of each unit.   Look at the Vocabulary/Big ideas PowerPoints and Vocabulary Quizlet. You will know the material by the end and the test will be much easier.

Check PowerSchool and Canvas Grades twice a week- Make sure that all assignments have been turned in and be aware of the grade earned on each.  Be sure to review the feedback your teacher provides and ask questions if it still does not make sense.

Get help- ask questions in class, at lunch, or after school.  You know what you are struggling on, let us try to help you understand it before you are graded on it.

What Parents Can Do

Check the Canvas and PowerSchool websites for grades frequently.  THIS IS THE SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT THING YOU CAN DO!!! You can have your student log in and show you.

Check to make sure the science notebook is complete.  The science notebook has almost all the daily work in it.  Click and scroll through the pages for the unit to make sure your student is documenting their thinking and work.

Encourage students to use the study resources available online.

Encourage students to get extra help - E-mail the teacher.

Update contact information on PowerSchool.  We will send out email updates and reminders to help you monitor your student’s learning. Make sure that the office has a valid email and that you are receiving our updates, make sure we are not going to your spam box!
