The Study Australia Industry Experience Program is now available at IMC!
IMC, in partnership with Practera, brings you the Study Australia Industry Experience Program (SAIEP). This program gives students the opportunity to engage with real industry projects set by Australian and global employers. Delivered virtually through Practera, an Australian experiential learning platform and edtech partner, the program brings together domestic and international tertiary students from across Australian institutions to collaborate in multidisciplinary student consultant teams.
Over a two-week period, students receive an industry project brief, work with their team to understand the client’s business context, and develop findings and recommendations for a professional report. Students may also take part in orientation, client briefing sessions, project reviews and feedback activities, helping them build practical workplace skills alongside their academic studies.
The program is designed to strengthen students’ employability by developing professional communication, virtual teamwork, problem-solving, innovation, cultural intelligence and commercial awareness. Upon successful completion, students may receive a digital badge to add to their LinkedIn profile.

As you progress through your degree, we want you to feel career-ready to dive into a new industry.
Whether you are studying Accounting, Finance or International Business, use the career tips below to get moving in the right direction.
Tip 1: Something you must ask yourself is, do I have work experience? It does not matter whether you served at McDonald's or in your local supermarket - any type of work experience helps you develop valuable skills that are transferable to other roles.
Remember to very briefly highlight your skills within each previous role on your resume. Emphasise what skills you have acquired and keep your resume up-to-date. Read this Resume 101 article from Seek to get you started.
Most Accounting firms have annual hiring recruitment drives. This would include the Big 4 plus all other accounting firms and banks. Do your research and keep actively looking for your next opportunity, as you need to act very quickly.
Remember: As a minimum, they would want their candidates to seek “Chartered” status within the first 3-4 years.
Tip 2: Like other professional services, consulting companies are always looking for graduates and many agencies have a Graduate Desk that concentrates on placing graduates into their first role; use this to your advantage.
This includes many types of companies from all areas of commerce, manufacturing, consumer goods, etc.
A good starting point for all students who are close to finishing their degree would be to sign up to graduate programs and hunt for their first job.
Many companies also have regular internship programs. This includes a range of industries and organisations. Internships can be a great way to gain insight into an industry. They are also a great way to work out what you’re not interested in, which is just as important!
Tip 3: While you’re searching for jobs, volunteering is another great way to add experience to your resume while giving back to the community. It’s an opportunity to learn new skills and meet new people. Consider volunteer work in an area of interest if necessary and feasible for you.
Meeting new people and networking can also open doors for you and lead to a job. Sign up for new graduate or industry events and get to know the people who could potentially become your colleagues. All you need here is a little confidence.
But remember, with a lot of competition in the entry-level job market, being a new graduate is not always easy. Getting your first foot in the door will take passion, dedication, and perseverance!
