“In order to succeed, you need to like what you’re doing,” she told the audience. “You need to have a passion for what you’re doing.”
Ayalde also acknowledged Hispanic Heritage Month and stated how proud she was of her background.
“It’s a real occasion to celebrate the heritage we bring to this country. The diversity we bring to this country,” she said. “As a Hispanic myself, I’m very happy to be part of the program today in the context of Hispanic Heritage Month.”
Students from the audience also had the opportunity to ask the ambassador questions and chat with her after the event.
For Jie Cheong, a junior at ILTexas Garland High School who served as one of the student ambassadors for the event, Ayalde’s message gave her a new perspective on leadership.
“The most impressive part of the message was everyone can be a leader,” she said. “There's a born leader and learned leader, but we can still learn.”

Nothing was better than seeing the cadets pumped up on the sidelines, cheering each team on. I've only seen people cheering on their teams at most competitions I've attended. I loved seeing the cadets holding each other's hands when falling behind and about to give up. Building camaraderie amongst our cadets and families reinforces knowing yourself and seeking self-improvement. That is what this program is about, helping each other grow and change for the better.
Thank you to all who came out and supported us! Also, thank all the 8th graders from the International Leadership of Texas Keller K8 who came out and helped. The schools that came to compete showed great respect and gratitude towards everybody who came out to support each other. All the cadets had a fantastic time. Throughout the events, they were all laughing, joking, and having a wonderful time. Each of the school's cadets came together to hype up the competitors, pushing themselves to the absolute limit to bring out their best. Of the thirteen schools that came out to compete, only one came home with a 1st place trophy. Bringing them great pride and confidence in their JROTC program.
