The Ogle Jolly 4-H Club met on November 18th for their monthly meeting. The Cloverbud children (ages 5-7) made pumpkin pie in a bag. The 4-H members reviewed old business, including a Veteran’s Day visit to Double O in Monroe Center to thank veterans and give them cards. Members participated in the Ogle Jolly garbage bag fundraiser, and garbage bags were distributed to members at the meeting.
Ogle County 4-H Achievement Day was November 17th. Members participated by receiving awards and passing on the “Club of the Year” award. On Achievement Day, Ogle Jolly 4-H Club was awarded a 4-H Honor Club Award and was recognized for decorating a window to promote 4-H week.
The club will be participating in Cardinal Christmas in Stillman Valley by decorating a Christmas tree and caroling on Sunday, December 1st. We will also be caroling at Generations at Neighbors nursing home in Byron on December 12th. Our next meeting will be December 16th, which will include a club awards ceremony and a pizza party. Each family is encouraged to bring a dessert.

The Ogle Jolly 4-H Club met on October 21st. A local pediatrician came to speak to our group about ways to stay healthy. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that school aged children should sleep 9-12 hours a night; children ages 13-18 should get 8-10 hours of sleep a night. She talked about nutrition, including eating at least 5 fruits and vegetables a day, drinking plenty of water, getting enough calcium, and eating breakfast each day. She discussed healthy screen time, limiting screens to 2 hours or less per day, not interacting with people you don’t know on social media, and keeping your phone out of your bedroom when you go to sleep at night.
The club made individual first aid kits and participated in a hand-washing activity. The club made plans to celebrate Vetran’s Day next month. The Ogle County 4-H Extension will host a winter gear donation drive from October 18 through November 15. Enrollment is due by November 1st for returning 4-Hers. The next meeting will be held on November 18th at 6:30 at the Red Brick Church in Stillman Valley.
Blakelynn Swanson was crowned the 2024 Miss Ogle County Fair Queen on July 31, 2024.
Hello everyone! My name is Blakelynn Swanson and I am your new 2024 Miss Ogle County! I am so extremely excited for the next year representing Ogle County! I grew up and still currently live in Stillman Valley on a small five acre “farm”. I grew up raising market lambs and always had maybe a few too many animals on the property! This is how I got into 4-H and FFA! I have been an active 4-H member for 12 years now and this is my final year. 4-H and the Ogle County fair has always been the highlight of every year. I take pride in the lambs I bring to the fair every year and have accomplished having the Grand Champion Overall Market Lamb many times. I currently work for Horn Farms in Kings, Illinois. I do everything from helping tend to the cattle, to running the grain cart in the fall. I attended Highland Community College after I graduated high school in 2023 and obtained my associates of science this last spring of 2024. I am now attending Colorado State University Online to get my bachelors degree in Agribusiness. I love all things agriculture and would love to work anywhere in the industry. My long term goal is to breed high quality ewes and get back into the market lamb breeding business when I am settled down and have a house of my own. Showing market lambs through 4-H and junior shows at various county fairs is my highlight of every summer. This summer has been even more exciting running for Miss Ogle County! Other than being crowned Miss Ogle County, my favorite part of this years fair was meeting so many new people and talking to people about the agriculture industry. I already feel so fulfilled after this week at the fair and can’t wait for a entire year full of adventures as Miss Ogle County!
