Happy Cinco de Mayo

It was Fiesta time at the May meeting of the Hub Hickory Nuts 4-H Club. Participants celebrated by learning about Cinco de Mayo from club member Mateo Torres; enjoyed tostadas made by club Mom, Lyn Cabanas; and took turns trying to break open a pinata. The pinata almost got the best of us, but as soon as member William Stein came up to bat,  there was a candy free for all!  Everyone had a great time celebrating Mexican heritage! 

Also on the agenda was a new club banner for the Ogle County Fairgrounds, a "Go Fish" Tournament for our June meeting, and our County Fair Fundraiser for Heifer International. 

Speaking of our fundraiser, please save up your change to help raise money for the Heifer International Penny War. Clubs compete against each other to earn the privilege of choosing the Heifer package to be gifted. Each penny counts as a point, but all silver coins are subtracted from the total. Bring on the sabotage and may the best club win!

The Hub Hickory Nuts meet on the first Monday of the month at 6:30 PM at New Beginnings Baptist Church in Creston. If you would like more information, please call the University of Illinois Extension at 1-815-732-2191.

Hub Hickory Nuts 4-H Club member Elizabeth Kennedy dove right in as Ogle County offered a new Legendary Llamas SPIN Club this year. They have worked so hard this year learning about caring, working, and showing llamas…. We hope you come out to watch them at the Ogle County Fair on Friday, August 2 at 1 pm in the horse arena! It’s our very first time hosting a llama/alpaca show!!
