Getting Started

Whether you are a new sponsor, student, parent, or veteran that just need a reminder of what to do, this page will explain the overall process of science fair in a detailed nut shell.

General Procedures

  1. Since this science exposition is a regional event affiliated with the state IJAS, you must register your school with the state first. Yes, even if you are a home school.
    • Membership Form can be found here. IJAS.org is the main site. Many documents and information about the State Science Exposition will be located there.
    • You will need a dedicated sponsor for your school. He/she will be the point person regional chairs will contact regarding exposition business.
  2. Attend our regional meetings. We will email all the sponsors whose information is on the State Membership list. In all honesty, we sometimes miss people. Highly recommend looking at the important dates on this site and emailing the regional chair if you haven't received any updates. It is important to be at the meeting or send a representative.
    • Why? We usually pass on information that is not always posted on site. We make collective decisions that will affect all students and sponsors. We go over technical details and proper procedures in filling out the forms and running of the fair.
    • We are all volunteers. In the spirit of Science Fairness, everyone needs to participate.
  3. Prepare your students. Regional Science Fair is in March of each year. Students need to be done with their projects by the end of January. Some sponsors have added their timelines as a guide to help pace your students.
  4. Register for the Fair - The State charges a one time school fee per year. Regional Science Fair collects a different fee per student.
    • Sponsors can sign up students to either or both sessions of the fair, Poster or Paper. Each has separate registration process and fees.
    • Entry of student information and sending of money is usually due around the same time, early February. The video on our Home page of this site is the Poster session. Paper session does not include poster board and held at different location.
