Prof. Praveen Chandrashekar is a professor at the Centre for Applicable Mathematics, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), Bangalore, with extensive experience in research and teaching in computational and applied mathematics. He received his B.E. in Mechanical Engineering from KREC Surathkal (1994–1998), M.E. in Aerospace Engineering from IISc Bangalore (1998–2000), and Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering from IISc (2004), completing his thesis titled “Development and Application of Kinetic Meshless Methods for Euler Equations.” His primary research interests are in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and numerical methods for partial differential equations, including kinetic schemes for compressible flows, meshless methods, finite volume, finite element and discontinuous Galerkin methods, compressible flow models such as MHD and shallow water, well-balanced schemes, adjoint solvers, automatic differentiation, shape optimization, simplex and particle-swarm optimization, surrogate modelling, and parallel computing. Prof. Chandrashekar has held several positions at TIFR-CAM—Fellow, Reader, Associate Professor—and has been serving as Professor since 2024. His professional experience includes work as Scientist at the National Aerospace Laboratories and as a post-doctoral researcher at INRIA Sophia Antipolis. He is active in academic leadership through organizing workshops, conferences, advanced schools, and instructional programs in numerical PDEs and optimization, while also teaching courses and offering tutorials on Python, numerical analysis, linear algebra, spectral methods, and finite difference and finite volume techniques.
Prof. Jaydeb Sarkar is a Professor (HAG) in the Statistics and Mathematics Unit of the Indian Statistical Institute, Bangalore, and currently serves as the Professor-in-Charge of the Theoretical Statistics and Mathematics Division. He earned his B.Sc. from Vidyasagar Evening College (1995–1998), M.Sc. from the University of Calcutta (1998–2000), and Ph.D. from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore (2001–2006). His research interests lie in functional analysis, particularly operator theory and multivariable operator theory, together with complex analysis and Banach space techniques. Prior to joining ISI Bangalore as Assistant Professor in 2011, he held Visiting Assistant Professorships at Texas A&M University and the University of Texas at San Antonio. He was promoted to Associate Professor in 2014, Professor in 2018, and Professor (HAG) in 2025, and also served as Head of the ISI Bangalore unit from 2019 to 2023. Prof. Sarkar has contributed extensively to operator theory and related fields, serves on the editorial boards of several international mathematical journals, and has played an active role in organizing numerous conferences, workshops, and thematic programs in analysis and operator theory. Through his sustained scholarly work, academic leadership, and commitment to the mathematical community, Prof. Sarkar has made significant contributions to the advancement of functional analysis and modern operator theory.
