Dr. Kharerin Hungyo

Hi, I am a computational biologist. After earning my PhD from IIT Bombay and a twin stints of postdocs from Penn State and ENS de Lyon, I have joined IIT Mandi as an Assistant Professor in August 2023. My area of research is mainly to study nucleosome positioning and genome organization using biophysical and computational methods. I am also interested in exploring and developing AI/ML-based methods to solve biological problems. Apart from teaching and research, I love sports, football, movies, etc. I also enjoy hiking and trekking the Mandi Hills with friends and family.

Shipra Singh

Hi, I am pursuing a Ph.D. from the Computational and Physical Genomics Lab. I completed graduation in the field of Zoology from Hansraj College, University of Delhi. Our lab hours in college always made me curious to know more and look beyond the concepts that were mentioned in the textbooks. I found myself inclined towards the field of biotechnology and therefore, after completing my graduation, I cleared the GAT-B exam conducted by the Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Education, India, and secured an AIR-51. During my master’s dissertation project, I with the help of my lab mates tried to draw a link between the disruption of the expression of circadian regulatory genes and lung cancer. I must say, it was a daunting experience to work with the team. Next, to further pursue research I cleared the GATE exam. After being admitted into IIT Mandi, I worked for a year with Dr. Prosenjit Mondal and he played a vital role in building my research aptitude. I have recently joined Dr. Hungyo’s lab and his discussions have always proved to be productive for me. I believe that the overall working environment of the lab depends on the supervisor and the colleagues. And I am fortunate to have a very conducive work environment. My current work deals with nucleosome positioning and dynamics of main and accessory methylation/demethylation proteins with CPG islands in normal and cancer cells. In my leisure time, I prefer painting, playing badminton, reading fictional novels, and hiking.

Hello, I am Ananya Chandra, hailing from Bengal. I completed my undergraduate in Zoology honours from the University of Burdwan with first class first and then went for my Masters degree in Zoology in Banaras Hindu University (BHU). I have worked in fly lab IISER Kolkata as a JRF for a short span of six months. Currently pursuing my PhD at IIT-Mandi in the Computational and physical genomics lab under the supervision of Dr. Kharerin Hungyo. My passion for biology and Science has been one of the most important driving forces involved in shaping my path. But, our hobbies also make a great contribution to what we are and some of the things which I do in my leisure time are dancing, sketching, reading novels and photography.

Girish Parmar

I completed my post-graduation at Jaypee University of Information Technology (JUIT), Waknaghat, and obtained my undergraduate degree from Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV), Indore. My prior research focused on the synthesis of silver nanoparticles and their characterization using XRD methods. Currently, I am working as CSIR JRF fellow in simulation of protein structures. Beyond my academic pursuits, I enjoy exploring new places and dedicate my free time to photography.
