"Nothing in life is to be feared; it is only to be understood." - Madame Marie Curie
Organelles orchestrate the behavior of cells and organisms. You may think of them as strings of a musical instrument. Just like the strings, each of these cellular compartments are unique machinery and changes in their environment together dictate the overall cell physiology. Therefore, instead of investigating a cell as one whole single entity, one must study the organellar environment individually. We are developing chemical technologies to understand the biochemical and chemical environment of organelles. Our main approach is to enable the chemistry done in reaction vessels to occur in a much complex cellular milieu. In summary, we are designing and developing chemical probes and reactions which will be specific to organelles such as mitochondria, endoplasmic reticulum and lysosomes.
