The Ph.D. Program is the flagship research program of the institute. Our Ph.D. graduates have gone on to top universities for post-doctoral fellowships and leading industrial research groups.
Eligibility: M.E/M. Tech. or equivalent, details as per official brochure. Update for 2025: Direct admission to Ph.D. after B. Tech: Students with good academic performance at the undergraduate level keen on research are invited to join the Ph.D. program directly after their B. Tech. See the brochure for details.
Application Process: Apply via IIT-DH Admission portal. Two rounds of interviews (first online and second in-person at IIT Dharwad Campus).
The M. Tech (R) Program is ideal for students who are interested in research. Students typically spend only one semester on coursework and then are engaged in rigorous research for the next 3-4 semesters, culminating in a thesis submission. We currently have multiple industry-sponsored M. Tech (R) positions with industry-allied research problems. Graduates of this program typically go on to join globally recognised Ph.D. programs or Industry research groups.
Eligibility: B.E./B.Tech. with valid GATE Score, details as per brochure/Website.

The M. Tech is a two-year program that includes one year (two semesters) of coursework to build up a foundational understanding of the stream, followed by one year of project work that enables learning by doing. Selected students are eligible to undertake project work in industry as well. The program is designed with industry focus, resulting in excellent placements.
Eligibility: B.E./B.Tech. with valid GATE Score, details as per brochure/Website.
Admission Process: Apply to IIT-DH admissions portal AND COAP Portal, selection purely based on GATE score.
All the above programs (M. Tech and PhD) have the option of part-time mode called "External Registration" Category. Special provisions apply to college teachers (QIP Program), employees of specific government organisations (DRDO, Armed Forces, PSUs, etc) and employees of private companies.
Institute Fellowships as per MoE guidelines, Visvesvaraya Fellowships, Prime Minister’s Research Fellowship, and several Industry-sponsored (project category) fellowships are available. In addition, grants are available for travel to top-tier international and domestic conferences, and contingency support.
We also host semester long project students in line with the 15 week requirement of internship from VTU. Interested candidates may please ask their Department Head / Dean / Principal to email one of the faculty members for this.
