Dharwad and Hubballi (also known as Hubli) are twin cities, approximately 20km apart, situated in the northwestern part of Karnataka, near the border with Maharashtra and Goa. The nearest AIRPORTS are:
Hubbali (HBX) with direct service to Bangalore, Pune, Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Delhi (30km/60min drive)
Belgaum (IXG) with direct service to Bangalore, Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Delhi (75km/90min drive)
Both Goa airports (GOX and GOI) are about 4 hours away.
RAIL CONNECTIVITY is also excellent, with many direct trains reaching Hubli (UBL) or Dharwad (DWR).
There is a daily Vande Bharat service to Bangalore (20661/20662) and Pune (20669/20670). Additionally, there are several overnight trains to Bangalore, including the Rani Chennamma Express (16589/16590) and the Belgaum Express (20653/20654).
BY ROAD, Dharwad can be reached via the National Highway NH48, formerly the Pune-Bangalore highway. Quite a few bus operators (government-run and otherwise) provide connectivity to nearby places such as Bangalore, Pune/Mumbai, Goa, Mangalore, Hyderabad, and other parts of Karnataka. The drive from Pune to Dharwad takes approximately 7 hours in a car, which is about the same as the drive from Bangalore.
The IIT Dharwad Campus is located just outside the city limits of Dharwad to the northwest, and the nearest landmark is the High Court or the Tata Motors factory. The most convenient way to reach campus from the airport is by taking a taxi. Ride-sharing apps such as Ola/Uber/etc do not operate in Hubli-Dharwad, but NammaYatri has recently launched its operations. It is possible to get an autorickshaw from the railway station or the Bus station to the campus. Some city buses operate from the Dharwad Central Bus Terminus (CBT or Old Bus Stand) and the New Bus Stand to the IIT Campus. The IIT Shuttle bus also connects the campus to the New Bus Stand.
