Kumar Chokshanada Sangakkara, born on October 27, 1977, hails from Matale, Central Province, Sri Lanka. He is the youngest of four children, growing up in the picturesque city of Kandy. His parents, Kshema (a civil lawyer) and Kumari Sangakkara, played a significant role in shaping his life. Because of his father's unwavering enthusiasm, Sangakkara's early years were spent participating in sports. Kumar and his siblings received hours and hours of coaching from their father. In addition to cricket, he excelled in other sports and studied music at Trinity College, where he played the violin and sang in the chorus. His remarkable journey as one of cricket's greatest wicket-keeper-batters began with his upbringing close to Kandy.

After retiring from international cricket in 2015, Kumar Sangakkara continued to remain active in the cricketing world in various capacities. 

Cricket commentator: He became a prominent cricket commentator, lending his insights to various broadcasting networks. 

Domestic T20 Leagues: He participated in various domestic T20 leagues around the world as a player. He represented teams in tournaments such as the Indian Premier League (IPL) and Pakistan Super League (PSL), among others. 

President of the MCC World Cricket Committee: Sangakkara assumed the prestigious position of President of the MCC World Cricket Committee.
