For Children's day we went to Tepehua again to give piggy backs that we had made for the kids. The Rotary Club helped us fill them up to promote the kids to save money. However, we did not consider that those kids were so poor that they could not even save money beause their parents were so poor that they had to use everysingle penny. We wathed as some parents realized that the piggy banks contained money and took them away from the kids and broke them to get the money out.
Reflection: this made me consider what we had done, and how we could've avoided it or done better. We could've given the kids a class on the importance of education or something, but gifting money proved to be wrong because we almost ruined their day and just allowed parents to take it away ( some parents in that community use the money to buy drugs of alcohol).
This was the protect that we had to plan. We went to play and give cake to the kids.
Reflection: as I left I noticed that the kids were very saddened that we had to go and some were physically restraining us to go. I realized that most people go there like me, just for the day, to think that they "are helping the kids" and instantly feel better about themselves. I thought that if I really wanted to hep the kids and make a positive impact in the kid's lives I had to go there more than once and dedicate myself to truthfully helping them and not just my ego.
