Ask an Astronomer - Realm of the Unseen: Radio Astronomy & the upcoming Square Kilometre Array
Dr Pooman Chandra from the National Center for Radio Astrophysics in India explains the basic concepts of radio astronomy such as interferometry, aperture synthesis, UV coverage etc. The lecture also touches upon the concepts like fast Fourier transform, angular resolution etc., which are essential when astronomers produce images of the radio sky. In the second part, we take the actual data from various radio telescope and deal with the radio data analysis including creating spectra, light curves and fitting.
An overview of the basic principles behind using two radio antennas to localize signals coming from the sky. Presentation by Karol Sanchez.
