Essentials
Prepare a resume and headshot/selfie. You will need to upload it with your application.
Complete the ONLINE form before May 26 at https://sites.google.com/ihstf.org/all-state2024/home
Note: for a breakdown of the roles in the show and considerations for what those roles entail, see the audition packet
Monologue (Required)
60-90 second comedic or dramatic monologue (written after 1900)
Should portray characters that fall in your natural age range (teens and 20s).
May use one of the monologues provided or one that you provide yourself (it must be from a play, musical, or book - no TV/Movie monologues, please!) - Monologue Options Sheet
You do not need to sing in your audition in order to be considered for all potential roles.
For tips to maximize your audition, refer to this Acting Audition Tip Sheet
Song (Optional)
All-State’s She Kills Monsters will utilize actors in the company to sing covers of the 90’s songs used during transitions as well as during pre-show, intermission, and post-show.
Students interested in singing should prepare a 90’s R&B OR Alternative Rock Song
The song should include one verse and one chorus (approx. 1-2 minutes)
You should have an accompaniment track (piano or karaoke) on your personal device (phone or tablet) at auditions. This is how many colleges audition students for musical theatre programs - you provide your own accompaniment. A speaker with an audio input will be provided (both Android and iPhone connectors will be provided, along with a standard USB)
If you sing during your audition, you will still be considered for all speaking roles
Song Expectations:
Please stay within the requested genres, as those are what the play will feature
Choose a song that highlights your talent.
Prepare ahead of time with your teacher/vocal coach.
Emulate the song you have chosen, but also make it your own.
Intros tend to be long on recordings, so plan to shorten them in your audition cut and accompaniment to two to four bars to maximize your singing time.
Fight Choreography (CALLBACKS ONLY)
Stage combat is the illusion of violence onstage used as a storytelling device.
Fight choreography is used extensively throughout the show, primarily in the D&D world.
Students of all abilities and ableness are welcome and can be taught fight choreography. Disclosure of physical injuries and/or issues is necessary for planning purposes, but all students can participate and accommodations can be made for any and all students.
At Callbacks, you will be taught a fight choreography sequence, which will be considered during casting.
Note: if you are involved in athletics at your school, be sure to check with your teams about fight choreography, as some sports restrict outside activity of that kind.
PLEASE NOTE: All-State Requires that you will accept any role in which you are cast. If you are unwilling to accept any role in which you would be cast, then please do not audition.
There will be a callback (by invitation only) on Saturday, June 24th at Bolingbrook High School from 9am-5pm. You will be notified if you need to attend the callback process.
