Splitting Home by Mr. Brendan
after Warsan Shire
no one splits home
unless a new home
is already being built
by someone you love
arms for a roof, torsos
for walls, crossed legs a floor
this home will either invite
or protect from homes past
you have to understand;
no one wants to do this
yet generations before us
have done so in hopes
it would not be so hard—
let breath leave their
lungs forever because it took
everything for those
words to come out
