My Lovely Language by Humayra B.
after Melissa Lozada-Oliva
Bengali is my mother tongue,
that language I first learned to speak.
Bengali is my own land,
that I am proud of.
Bengali is my 1971 war ,
which we got in exchange for 30 million lives.
Bengali is my love,
where I spent my childhood.
Bengali is our hard-earned language
that we weren't allowed to become Urdu.
Bengali is my country of six seasons,
whose memory is never forgotten.
Bengali is my favourite food,
That I didn’t get the taste of the world.
Bengali is my heaven
Where I want to die.
