How We Start Out
At the outset of the year, students have the opportunity to:
practice some everyday procedures for Spanish class
write about their experiences in language class and reflect on them
reflected on the "tools" that they already have for learning Spanish, ranging from good listening skills, or an outgoing nature, to resilience -- students are often surprised to discover how many tools for success they already have at their disposal!
discuss reasons for studying Spanish and reflect on how to stay motivated
learn about language proficiency levels, estimate their own levels in reading, writing, listening, and speaking, and set goals for this year
Here are some samples of the kinds of things that our middle school students think will motivate them to study Spanish! Click to view the different pictures.
Hispanic Heritage Month runs from Sept. 15 - Oct. 15, so you may want to ask your child about what we are doing during that time!
During this month, classrooms around our nation celebrate the contributions, language, culture, history and traditions of Spanish-speaking countries and the many ways in which these have enriched our national identity.
Celebrating Hispanic Cultures
Learning a language goes hand-in-hand with discovering the cultures in which it is embedded! From Día de los Muertos to less-well-known celebrations, we take every opportunity during the year to explore and to get a taste of a variety of hispanic cultures.
