In this chapter students continue their work with addition from the previous year as they explore the Essential Question: How does understanding place value help you to estimate and find sums of 3-digit numbers? They will learn about and use the commutative, associative, and identity properties of addition. They will explore patterns in the addition table, estimate sums by rounding or using front-end estimation, and add two and 3-digit numbers using methods based on partial sums and on place value with regrouping. They use these skills and concepts to solve problems infused in all lessons.
