There are very few institutions in the country that offer a programme in analytical chemistry. Some of these offer a PG degree but none offer a P G Diploma of this kind. The chemists play a prominent role directly and indirectly in industry and national laboratories. The list of industry - large, medium and small - to which they contribute is quite long; still a few are mentioned below: n
Fertilizers
Agrochemicals such as Pesticides
Sugar and Confectionery
Food Processing and Analysis of Food Adulterants
Paints
Plastics and Polymers
Pulp and Paper
Electroplating
Rubber
Detergents, Soaps and Cosmetics
Glass and Ceramics
Cement
Dyes and Textiles
Pharmaceuticals
Natural Gas, Petroleum Refining & Petrochemicals
Metallurgy, Steel and Alloys.
Apart from the above, chemists are employed in many national laboratories run by CSIR, ICAR etc. [like NCL (Pune), CECRI (Karaikudi), CDRI (Lucknow), CICT (Hyderabad), GSI (all over India)]
After the successful completion of the PGDAC programme the learners can seek employment in all the types of industries involved in analytical work or the National laboratories run by CSIR and ICAR etc.
In case the learners are already employed in any of the analytical labs, they get equipped with the skills required in their respective institutions. Thus it is a capacity building programme also that helps in the enhancement and enrichment of the skills required by an analytical worker
