The Association of Filipino Forestry Students - UPLB, Incorporated (AFFS-UPLB, Inc.) is a duly recognized academic-environmental organization of the University of the Philippines Los Baños and a local committee member of the International Forestry Students’ Association (IFSA). Established in 1999, the association has consistently stood at the forefront of youth-led initiatives that advance humanitarian service, environmental stewardship, and academic excellence within the forestry sector.
The organization's vision is to serve as a fervent and proactive academic-environmental group of united forestry students all over the archipelago, forging closer relationships among future foresters of the land, a key player in pushing forward for the enrichment of forestry education, and as a unifying and dynamic student group that promotes environmental consciousness towards a better environment.
Over the years, AFFS-UPLB has gained national and international recognition through the successful implementation of its flagship environmental programs. The association was named a national finalist in the Ten Outstanding Youth Organization (TAYO) Awards Year 11 of the National Youth Commission and was recognized by the Asian Youth Advocates Award 2021 for its contributions to the promotion of the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 13: Climate Action.
BakaJuan Project is the association’s comprehensive mangrove conservation initiative, consisting of Mangrove Tree Planting and Monitoring, the Mangrove Education for Youth Program, and a series of educational webinars that promote coastal ecosystem awareness and stewardship.
FUBG is an annual quiz competition for first-year students of the UPLB College of Forestry and Natural Resources, designed to assess foundational knowledge in forestry while introducing participants to their academic journey in the field.
EMM is a biennial, university-wide quiz competition that challenges and enhances students’ understanding of environmental conservation, sustainability, and climate change action.
The association is an active local chapter of AFFS Philippines, a nationwide organization uniting forestry students from various forestry schools across the country.
AFFS-UPLB is also a proud committee member of IFSA, a non-political and non-profit global network of tertiary-level forestry students. Through IFSA, the association actively participates in international conferences, seminars, symposiums, workshops, and regional meetings, including the Asia-Pacific Regional Meeting (APRM) and the International Forestry Students’ Symposium (IFSS).
