This was the main route we took on the excursion to the Padul Peat Bogs. Along the way we made several stops to observe birds and the vegetation of the area. Finally, we arrived at the Padul water treatment plant, shown on the next route.
This route indicates the entire route taken by the water that reaches the treatment plant in Padul. It goes through the Acequia Madre Maestra, whose water comes from the groundwater of the Cerro del Manar, and from inside the town centre it enters the wetland and brings water to the Aguadero lagoon and the flood zone next to the Mamut path.
OBSERVED SPECIES
During the tour, we took samples and photographs, and we observed changes in the aquatic fauna and flora in general.
Ardea cinerea
Common fig
Ficus carica
Phragmites sp.
Grey heron nest
Meadow (habitat of the Bedriaga's skink) (Chalcides bedriagai)
Reed (Juncus sp)
Fauna: reed warblers (ofita)
The great cormorant (Phalacrocorax carbo)
Northern Shoveler (Spatula clypeata)
Barbel (invasive) Barbus barbus
Small brackish water snails (Pseudoamnícola)
Diversity of endemic molluscs found in the channel around the lagoon (madre).
We sampled at two points, one close to the sewage outfall, and the other near the visitor centre of the nature site, further away from it.
Sampling in the area closest to the point of discharge: As we get closer to the discharge, the bio-indicators of uncontaminated water are reduced or disappear.
Phytoplankton and zooplankton
Invertebrate (Mollusc)
Sampling in the area furthest away from the point of discharge: the species most sensitive to pollution are abundant, indicating that the water is cleaner. In the samples we took we found:
Caracaceous algae: they oxygenate the water, they are very good.
Aquatic mosses: on the edges of pylons, bryophytes, they are not completely submerged.
Filamentous algae: bioindicator of when there is organic matter.
Watercress: clean the water of ammonia, aquatic vegetation that absorbs it through photosynthesis.
