In order to get a better understanding to how the quarantine may have influenced teens around us, we made a research asking teens with ages between 13 and 18, almost equally divided by gender (51% female, 41% male and 8% said they would rather not tell their gender), if they have been affected negatively by it and if they have symptoms of depression.
It was shown by our research that half of the interviwed teens answered they are either constantly sad or close to being constantly sad during quarantine. This is really alarming, considering less than 20% of them were already contantly sad or close.
Our research also showed the amount of Hobbies these teens used to have decreased by at least 17% because of quarantine and 20 % of the students regularly lose interest in the things they used to like.
The research also shows that almost 19% of the people intervied feel as if they are an anoyance to their family and friends and around 36% of the them said they usually feel depressed and as if they were failures.
Between the young who were interviwed, about 42% of them have been either having problems to sleep or sleeping more than they should, and a 39% of all of the interviwed are often feeling exausted. It was also shown by the research a third of them are constantly losing appetite or eating in excess.
Altough around 40% of the people who were interviwed showed symptoms of depression, less than 25% said they feel hopeless almost everyday, and only 14% said they feel almost everyday as if nothing could make them happy. From all the 64 teen, 13 are showing strong symptoms of depression and despite being a small number, it is really worrying how a fifth of the interviwed teens may have depression or are starting to develop it.
In order to avoid, it is important to know how to recognise if people around you may have any strong symptons, as mentioned in our homepage, so you can help them by following our techniques or, if it seems to be a strong case of depression, take them to a health professional so they can be treated.
More than 35% of the interviwed said they would like to discuss about the subject, while 31% said they may be interested, and almost half of all of them told they wold like to understand more about depression in teens during quarantine. If you would like to understand more abou the subject, take a look at our homepage or the other pages of our site.
