TCIS Elementary School Counseling

Ms. Becca
I am Ms. Becca, this will be my second year as the Elementary School Counselor at TCIS. During the 2022/2023 school year I was working with TCIS's middle school. Before this I was a school counselor for two years at two elementary schools in Wisconsin. I have worked with kids for at least 10 years in different capacities, including as a site lead for a preschool through 5th grade summer program, substitute teacher and paraprofessional, behavior support specialist, youth counselor at a residential treatment facility, and more.
I became a school counselor because I love helping kids learn and grow into individuals that can make a positive impact on the world around them. I believe that students have the ability to continue to learn and grow, and that I also have that ability even as an adult. I am excited to work with TCIS Elementary School and look forward to meeting all the students and collaborating with the adults in their lives.

My theme for the 2024/2025 school year is Spread Kindness Like Wildflowers. 52% of incidents reported to the dean during the 2023/2024 school year were for name calling. My goal for the year is to help the number of incidents reported to the dean decrease by 15%, from 996 to 847. I plan to help the students increase their kind words and actions by teaching them about kindness and respecting differences, and helping them practice skills for regulating their emotions and solving conflicts. I also plan to have some leadership groups this year to help me with solving conflicts during recess and spreading random acts of kindness.
