Schedule Your Day
In this time of uncertainty, we can only control what we can control. Even though school and work aren't forcing us out of bed at a regular time, it's still good to have a routine. Without it, things can descend into chaos and make us feel even less in control in this unusual situation.
For our family, we designed a schedule around 30-minute blocks. We aren't rigid - if the kids want to continue an activity, that's a bonus because it means fewer transitions for us. Making sure you have enough activities lined up to make a meaningful day will help your mental health and promote peace in your household. However, don't forget to look after yourself too! Intersperse activity with down time and make sure you plan in some 'me' time wherever you can, whether that's before the kids rise, with the help of another adult, or after bed-time.
Below is a selection of schedules - use any of them as a basis for creating your own. Only you know your kids and household routines. Involving your kids in creating your schedule can be a meaningful way to keep them engaged and give them agency in their day.
