The Institute of Popular Education of Southern California (IDEPSCA) is a nonprofit community
based organization whose purpose is to promote self-determination in the low-wage working
community in Southern California politically, culturally, and economically using popular
education based organizing methods. We promote the development of collective solutions to
community problems.
Position Summary:
The Development Associate, raises and tracks funds to help support day laborers and domestic
workers in Los Angeles fight wage theft, access health and safety rights and participate in
workforce development programs. IDEPSCA through grants and grassroots donors, working
alongside the Management Team. Because of the COVID-19 Pandemic, currently the position
can be partially remote, with some in person /office presence required.
Job Requirements
Requirements:
● Excellent planning and organization skills.
● Ability to facilitate collective planning, decision-making, and evaluation processes with
diverse stakeholders and organizations.
● Excellent communication skills; ability to assess and discern multiple requests from
various stakeholders and prioritize and coordinate responses accordingly.
● Strong writing and editing skills in English.
● High level of cultural competency and/or successful experience working with low-wage,
immigrant, workers of color.
● Bilingual in English and Spanish
● Experience in non-profit fundraising
● Experience in data entry and management
● Ability to track/manage projects and meet deadlines
● Must be fully COVID-19 vaccinated (this includes booster)
Job Responsibilities
Responsibilities:
● Writes, edits, submits, and manages grant proposals and reports for foundations,
corporate, government and individual sources, both independently and in collaboration
with the Program Managers and the Executive Director.
● Research potential foundations, corporations, and government funding opportunities.
● Works with Management Team to understand the specific goals, activities and outcomes
of each program and to monitor and evaluate progress to ensure accurate reporting to
funders.
● Enters and manages data as part of grant reporting processes.
● Monitors fundraising progress on a monthly basis.
● Prepares donation acknowledgement letters, maintains giving records, and manages
individual donor engagement.
● Works with Management and other staff to plan and execute grassroots fundraising
campaigns.
● Assists Management Team with foundation, government, and donor relations.
● Drafts compelling development communications such as annual reports, quarterly
newsletters, decks, meeting briefs, event packets, and correspondence, sometimes in
collaboration with other staff.
● Represents the organization with foundations, and other donors and grantors.
Compensation and Benefits
