The MSC process in Mozambique was conducted in two provinces, and resulted in twelve collected stories, six in Nampula Province and another six in Cabo Delgado Province. The Selection Committees chose two final stories, one from each province. The Selection Committee’s criteria for story selection included good enterprise, community impact, number of beneficiaries covered, sustainability, and the possibility of accomplishment. Sector specific themes that emerged included agriculture production, agribusiness, and access to water.
The final selected story from the Cabo Delgado Committee was about a female smallholder farmer who won government funding to invest in and sell agricultural surplus. This farmer aspired to start tractor farming and also to start a borehole to provide water for the community.
The final selected story from Nampula Province was about a male smallholder farmer who sold agricultural inputs and surpluses and aspired to build a warehouse to aggregate products from local producers and serve the community.
Compared to entrepreneurs in other countries, those in Mozambique were more inclined to focus on generating revenue through property rentals and investing in construction or real estate infrastructure, such as warehouses or storefronts for their businesses.
