The MSC process in Ghana was conducted in the Upper West, Upper East, Savanna, and Northern Regions where the Her Time to Grow (HTTG) project operates.
The Selection Committee in the Ghana MSC process valued stories that were community centered, mentioned the provision of childcare, and featured agriculture related change. Other themes that resonated with the Selection Committee included wellbeing, the WASH needs of the community, and markets and trade
The final selected story was about a female farmer and food vendor who aggregated cereals and legumes and aspired to improve her business by buying a tricycle for the transportation of goods. The committee appreciated that the selected story focused on the priorities of farmers.
Relative to other countries, women in Ghana were more likely to discuss tractors, water infrastructure (specifically boreholes), processing and services (agricultural value addition), and childcare concerns. Eighteen individual farmers explicitly mentioned a desire to access tractor services to improve their agricultural businesses. Additionally, several women discussed the desire for a local market in their community, as described in this quote, “I also wish the community can get their own market so other communities will also travel to them to trade which will reduce the cost of transporting their goods to other markets.”
